Salsa Taste Test
Celebrate harvest season by dropping by the library between 4pm and 5pm to taste test a variety of salsas! Fill out a scorecard to rank your favorites and you will be entered into a drawing for a salsa-themed prize basket! Registration is required.

Town hall meeting with Senator Anderson and Senator Arellano . This is a free event that is open to the public and this is a nonpolitical town hall meeting. Get ready to build your own magical wooden troll at RVDL! Inspired by the larger-than-life troll sculptures of artist Thomas Dambo, you'll create a whimsical wooden troll to take home. Unleash your creativity and bring your own forest friend to life!
Teen Anime Day at the Figge Museum
Dust off your cosplay and grab your sketchbooks! We invite teens (ages 11-19) to the Figge Art Museum for an afternoon of manga, anime, Japanese culture, and art. We will be giving out event prizes, offering fun, interactive sessions, and provide light snacks. Attendees are welcome to bring their own drawing supplies and dress up in their favorite cosplay or anime merch. The event is free, but registration is required and space is limited.
Published Author Reading and Signing

Adult Craft: Mini Gallery Wall
Create your own tiny masterpiece! Design a charming miniature gallery wall by painting a canvas to resemble a wall, then arrange miniature frames filled with tiny works of art to create a one-of-a-kind display. All supplies will be provided, and no artistic experience is necessary.

Stargazing at Riverdale Middle School
The Popular Astronomy Club, River Valley Library, and Riverdale Middle School present Stargazing at RMS! Join us for a night of education and recreation under the night sky. This event will feature the astronomy club's mobile observatory, several impressive telescopes, and some free treats.
Refreshments and activities start at 6:45, Stargazing starts at sundown.

Spooky Movie Bingo
Halloween isn't just for kids! Celebrate the season with an afternoon of classic comedy, bingo, and spooky fun.
We'll watch the 1930s classic short film Laurel and Hardy: Murder Case, a 30-minute spooky comedy that's appropriate for all ages. As you watch, mark off your bingo card whenever something on your card appears in the movie. Get a bingo and win a small prize!
Joanne Hachtel will kick off the program with a brief introduction to Laurel and Hardy, along with a few Halloween jokes. Punch and light refreshments will be provided.

Living Lands and Waters Presentation
Join us for a presentation by Mike Coyne-Logan from Living Lands and Waters. He will share lessons learned throughout his nearly 20 years of working and living on a barge. This presentation will touch on the importance of rivers, how we can help keep them clean, the effects of microplastics, and the history and mission of Living Lands and Waters.

Ready to learn something new? Join Michael from Salsa Essentials and Melissa of Acroyoga for a fun, beginner-friendly salsa dance class! During the first hour, you'll learn the basic steps, turns, and rhythms of salsa in a welcoming, no-pressure environment. In this 8-week workshop, kids and teens will turn their ideas into real, published books.
This program is all about choice and creativity. Writers can create whatever inspires them, including graphic novels, picture books, chapter books, poetry collections, or short story anthologies. The workshop will provide these authors time to write, share, and give each other feedback in a supportive group setting.
In the final weeks, we’ll polish and prepare each project for publication. Library staff will format books for Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), and during our last session, families will help their child upload their books and hit “publish”!
No writing experience is necessary. Every participant will leave a published author, and will be acknowledged at the reading and signing at the end of the Summer.

Chaos Embroidery
Embrace the unexpected with Chaos Embroidery, a laid-back, creative program where there are no rules—just thread, fabric, beads, trinkets, and your imagination! Instead of following a pattern, participants will stitch freely, layering colors, shapes, and textures to create something totally unique.
Whether you’re brand new to embroidery or already love to stitch, this is a great chance to experiment, relax, and see where your creativity takes you. The result might be abstract, colorful, a little messy—and completely your own.

Friends, families, and all fans of the performing arts are invited to take a seat in the audience and celebrate these creative, hardworking students as they shine on stage.
School Supply Swap
Help local students start the school year strong! Donate new or gently used school supplies at River Valley District Library between August 1st–8th. Then, from August 10th–12th, stop by and shop the donated supplies for free! Whether you're giving, receiving, or both, every donation helps our community get ready for a successful school year.
One Act Play Dress Rehearsal
