The River Valley District Library serves 5,176 residents in northern Rock Island County, Illinois. Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Circulation Manager inspires connection through lifelong learning

by maintaining day to day organization of library materials and shelves.

Essential Functions:

  • Be knowledgeable about library policies and procedures regarding circulation of materials and registration

    of patrons.

  • Participate in relevant training.

  • Process library pick list.

  • Accurately and efficiently shelves library materials in assigned collections according to the Dewey Decimal

    and other library filing systems.

  • Reads shelves in assigned collections, organizes materials into their proper sequence, and straightens

    materials for neatness.

  • Assists with opening and/or closing checklist.

  • Assists with displays and signage.

  • Be available to work Saturdays, when necessary.

  • Participate in relevant training, continuing education, and staff development.

  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Good time management skills; self-motivated.

  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with patrons and staff.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Requires considerable repetitive motion involving the use of fingers, hands and limbs. 

  • Continuous standing, stooping, bending, climbing, sitting, and lifting and pushing of books and other library

    materials ranging from under one pound to over twenty pounds.
