Exelon Helps Local Libraries Open Another Chapter for Summer Reading Programs
Exelon Nuclear’s Quad Cities Generating Station is once again a sponsor of the summer reading
programs at the Cordova and River Valley Libraries. “We are proud to donate to the success of the
summer reading programs,” said Quad Cities Site Vice President
Randy Gideon. “We have a number of our employees’ children who participate in the programs. As the
father of small children, I understand the importance these libraries play in the growth of the Cordova and
Port Byron communities and surrounding area.” In Port Byron, the River Valley District Library’s summer
reading program is off to a great start, according to Executive Director Lisa Ford, where 229 people
signed up for the program on the first day.
This River Valley District’s summer reading program is titled: World’s Fair! Your Ticket to Adventure! It is a
cultural, educational and recreational program centered around six different countries that hosted a
World’s Fair. This summer, program participants will experience cuisine and cultural facts about these
countries whileencouraging them to read. “By partnering with us, Exelon’s donation will educate and
inspire the community to read all summer long thus helping them to develop lifelong reading skills and
educating them on the history of the World’s Fairs at the same time. Our heartfelt thanks go to Exelon for
generously supporting literacy and for helping us give back to our wonderful community we so proudly
serve,” said Ford.

Quad Cities Generating Station is in Cordova, IL on the banks of the Mississippi River in Rock Island
County. With both units running at full power, Quad Cities generates enough electricity to power more
than 1 million average American homes.

Exelon Corporation is one of the nation’s largest electric utilities with approximately $17 billion in annual
revenues. The company has one of the industry’s largest portfolios of electricity generation capacity, with
a nationwide reach and strong positions in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. Exelon distributes electricity to
approximately 5.4 million customers in northern Illinois and southeastern Pennsylvania and natural gas to
approximately 486,000 customers in the Philadelphia area. Exelon is headquartered in Chicago and
trades on the NYSE under the ticker EXC.
Thank you for your support of this year's summer reading program. Without your contribution, we would
be unable to provide this wonderful educational experience for the children and adults of our
community. Thank you for volunteering your time, resources and enthusiasm to this project.
