Library Director
The River Valley District Library Board of Trustees is seeking an innovative and energetic individual for a 5000
patron District Library with an annual budget of $450,000. Located in Port Byron, Illinois, on the bank of the
Mississippi River, River Valley District Library is in the consulting stage of a future library expansion.
Responsibilities:
• Ensure high levels of patron service and public relations.
• Hire and supervise library staff, and conduct staff evaluations.
• Directs and controls the expenditure of funds within constraints of approved budgets, including collection
development, equipment, and furnishings.
• Prepares financial and statistical reports for the Board of Trustees and the State Library.
• Establish priorities, procedures, and general practices for the Library.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with community leaders and groups, and other
library leaders.
• Grant writing and capital fund development for existing programs and future expansion.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s Degree in Library Science preferred.
• Progressively responsible experience in a public library, or experience and/or training that provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities upon approval by the Board of Trustees.
• Experience in fiscal management and planning.
• Thorough knowledge of current trends, technology, and best practices for public libraries.
• Excellent communication skills, including public speaking ability.

Salary: $38,000-$45,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is covered by the
Illinois Municipal Employee’s Retirement Fund (IMRF). Holiday pay and generous paid time off are also
included.
